Jim And Urbanie Clear's
Story Of Healing
We know firsthand the value of Dr. Barry Gillespie's
life's work, the quality of the training he offers,
and the results we continue to obtain.
We will be offering an infant's and children's massage
class March 22, 2002 in Mexico. Let me share with you
how this came about.
Taking "Brain Therapy" To
Mexico
Many healthcare professionals either donate their
time or work for a fee inside Mexico. Massage therapists,
Reiki practitioners, physical therapists,
bodyworkers, physicians, nurses, dentists, ophthalmologists, and other
secular organizations have been there and have
offered their time and talents for
decades.
When we got back home here in New Mexico, after training with Dr.
Gillespie in Pennsylvania, we were introduced to a woman, (Dr.
San Juana Mendoza-Bruce,
a well-trained and experienced medical doctor) seeking help, donations,
etc. for several of her clinics in Juarez and Anapra, Mexico.
These are the poorest of the poor along the border. Many live without
shelter, no running water, little food, money, or hope. We were
already incorporating
Dr. Gillespie's techniques into our work with homeless and abused women,
children, and families here in New Mexico.
Word Of The Healing Power
Of Natural Care Spreads
The word was spreading that many were being helped
using natural care approaches alone. The list is far
too long to document here.
I will sum it up by saying
we got to see and work with physical, intellectual, emotional, and
social disorders/problems in hundreds of infants, children,
and adults while
there.
The work was challenging and rewarding because:
- It was
performed at an award-winning publicly funded social
services organization,
- It
was critically viewed by traditionally trained
professionals in medicine, dentistry, nursing,
and early childhood development, and
- It was the first
"alternative" approach authorized.
Dr. San Juana has worked in Mexico for
sixteen years. She has seen everything in the traditional
medical model
and tried out many "alternative approaches" and
eastern modalities. There is also every
muscle and fascial disorder imaginable in the populations
there.
A Reputation For Working
Effectively With Children
In addition, there are few who are qualified or available
to work with infants and children. There is a huge shortage
in this part of the country. Many poor do not make for
a healthy practice and income.
She had heard about our work, especially the fact that we can work safely
and effectively with children, and invited us to come to one of her clinics
so she could observe firsthand the safety and possible efficacy of this work.
Breaking Through The Language Barrier
With Treatment
On our first visit, we saw
common musculoskeletal problems.
Everyone we treated reported
his or her results back to
her. I do not speak enough
Spanish to
have asked the basic questions every therapist would want to know first.
The good doctor would speak with them for a moment and then point
toward us.
We quickly realized we would be given no form of
information to begin with. So, we met with our eyes,
smiled, pointed to the treatment table, and worked
through the waiting crowd until late afternoon.
At the end of the day, Dr. San Juana said
to us in English, "How
nice. How marvelous. Everyone you saw said
they were treated with kindness and dignity. Everyone
said your work was gentle, and you found and relieved
many
of
their pains.
Interestingly, some I sent you have been seen for ten
or more years, and never felt this good. May
we go to dinner? I want to ask you some more questions
regarding
your work."
Treating Children With Difficult Cases
She grilled us about our training, our knowledge of
anatomy, physiology, and especially the pathology regarding
(specific) conditions in infants and children.
We parted
knowing we would see some difficult children's cases
at our next visit.
What we saw were birth related traumas, developmental
conditions and delays, craniosynostosis conditions, and
a variety of difficult muscle and fascial problems.
The Bottom Line?
The good doctor asked us to share with her other colleagues
(MD/DDS/DMD/OD) the science behind what we're doing.
They are seeing improvements, hope, and changes
they all thought were not possible.
(These are both U.S. and Mexican physicians who take
it back with them to their own practices.)
We are thankful to Barry for his wonderful training,
support, and friendship. His work is now being
done in both the U.S. and Mexico and is spreading
as
visiting physicians learn more.
Teaching The Therapies
We have now been asked to teach the women in the colonias
how to touch the children and massage them and also to
lecture to traditional and non-traditional practitioners
about the benefits, safety, and use of natural care methods.
They have given us 2 translators!!
They have never seen anything like
this work, its gentleness, safety and effectiveness.
Having a powerful
tool to help that requires no
drugs/surgery seems miraculous to them.
Discovering
The Power Of Touch
And The Science Behind It
They have discovered The Power of Touch.
And there is sound science behind it they can
understand. When we discussed the cranial bones/sutures
(an introduction to craniosacral therapy), we were
all speaking the same language! Glad we were awake
for that part of the "Brain Therapy" workshop.
"Dr. Gillespie
is making a beautiful and healing contribution
to this world by sharing his knowledge. You know
it works when there is no communication other than
touch.
The continued results speak for themselves.
It's happening!
