Neurodiversity: The New Normal | Cynthia Coupe | TEDxOcala

By now, most of us know what autism is, but do we know what neurodiversity is? We should be able to recognize 40% as the majority of neurodivergent people. Speech Language Pathologist Cynthia Coupe (MA, CCC-SLP), will talk about neurodiversity and what happens when people don’t support neurodivergent people. Cynthia Coupe is a neurodivergent herself and the mother of an autistic daughter. This talk will change the paradigm and bring about lasting change through education, support, and identification. Cynthia, a Speech Language Pathologist and self-diagnosed neurodivergent is committed to changing traditional systems in order to better serve those with special needs. She spent the past 20years developing a strengths-based approach for her clients, as well as teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorders.
Cynthia’s diverse experience in serving people at home, school, and hospital settings has given her a unique perspective. Her background in Recreation Therapy, as well as her personal experience raising a child with autism and ADHD, have influenced her desire to make a difference in this community in her next career stage.
Cynthia is co-owner and CEO at Outreach Advocacy Resources and Services, Inc. Cynthia holds a double BA and MA from San Francisco State University, as well as an MA from University of Colorado, Boulder. Her professors awarded her the honor of being named Outstanding Graduate Student, which was the highest distinction she received.
