Bipolar disorder is considered to be in a rapid cycling state if you have more than four episodes of either depression or mania in one year.
One study found that 80% experienced rapid cycling resolution within two years. Rapid cycling can often be triggered by medication or a serious medical condition. If you’re cycling, your doctor should examine you to determine if there are any factors that could be causing your instability.
